Since the existence of mankind, architecture has served as shelter for hundreds of generations. The landscape has been the object of man’s conquest, mainly to protect himself from its inclemencies.
What began as a necessity has evolved into a lucrative business, causing the overconstruction of land and saturating an already collapsed market. Places that expired before their inauguration, buildings that were never finished and never fulfilled their function of sheltering anyone.
A physical legacy in the form of built realities and transformed spaces that we and future generations will have to deal with for decades to come.
The image presented, sober and dreamlike, shows us a contemporary ruin on the shores of the Mediterranean. A testimony unfortunately too recurrent in this territory.
Its incomplete and to some extent tragic state, acts as a reminder, replacing an always incomplete and fleeting memory, marking the place. A structure turned into a monument to the limited powers of man.
If each society has the landscape that corresponds to it, it is time to ask ourselves if we want to leave behind a ground full of iron and concrete waste and move towards a voluntary geography that benefits society as a whole, or continue to live in an unfinished and decadent city like a Ballardian postcard.
