A deconstructed beauty

We are excited to introduce Ethel Coppieters, the new artist represented by the gallery. She is a breath of fresh air and has clear ideas. Ethel Coppieters studied fine arts at the ERG in Brussels and to understand her knowledge she spent a year at the school of Fine Arts in Lisbon. She finally graduated in 2021.
Her pictorial work is centered on the female figure. She paints women inspired by the women around her, her friends and acquaintances have become her muses.  As an artist she seeks to represent the contemporary woman and the modern elements that accompany her. In this way she creates intimate and universal dreamlike scenes where bodies have deconstructed proportions. In her work, Ethel Coppieters explores the limits of traditional canons of beauty and challenges them. In this way, Coppieters frees her characters from the expectations and demands regarding current beauty that society imposes.V

Coppieters' color palette is rich, warm and intense. His work conveys dreaminess and nostalgia, but also rawness. Coppieters' characteristic venus has a captivating gaze that captures the viewer. Gradually, the protagonist becomes a more dynamic character through dance or trotting. The language that Ethel Coppieters' painting has developed recalls Matisse's painting “The Dance”.
In parallel, Coppieters has a facet in muralism and graffiti, where she is known as Soaz. Her work revolves around the representation of portraits of women and compositions of bodies and faces. In this facet she explores the contrast between color and form. She is an artist with a proposal according to the times in which we live. Ethel Coppieters invites us to reflect and ask ourselves questions about our way of perceiving the world of appearances.
