Cesc Abad

Cesc Abad's ceramics, far from being an archaeological discovery, are an iconographic discovery with multiple figures and readings, accompanied by a very special colouring that give his works an infinite number of visions and interpretations. As in Greek ceramics, the narratives that we can observe in Cesc Abad's works try to explain certain actions that can be as everyday as desire, lust, mystery or passion, all concepts that are intrinsically linked to human nature.

Cesc Abad presents at Urvanity Art fair a careful selection of his new series of small-format ceramics, as well as his well-known vases, accompanied by canvases and works on paper. The pieces will be on view only from 28 to 30 May at the COAM headquarters in Madrid, within the fair's exhibition area.
The reading or interpretation of their ceramics can be from bottom to top, from right to left or in the opposite direction, which allows the viewer to enjoy different stories or moments that enrich the human condition. In a way they are somewhat reminiscent of Sumerian bas-reliefs, whose stories were configured in bands or registers around the vessel and whose initial content was fundamentally religious and votive. They also featured seated or processional figures and animals, giving the pieces a narrative register. Yellows, greens, blues and reds give these ceramics a colour and brightness somewhere between kitsch, pop and the naturalness of life itself.
