Frank Plant draws in steel, a medium that becomes an extension of his critical eye and sensitivity to the everyday. His works capture figures and scenes that, though simple, are charged with a subtle irony and an almost existential depth. Plant uses steel to reveal what we tend to overlook: common objects and moments, gestures and minimal interactions, endowing them with a stillness that transforms the ordinary into something almost transcendental.

In the past, I’ve been known to throw the occasional party, a passion that always felt like a form of alchemy: bringing different elements together to create something greater than the sum of its parts. This inspired the title Party People, a nod to Afrika Bambaataa’s iconic song Planet Rock, which always rings in my head when I think of this piece.
The piece captures the essence of a large gathering: a multitude of interactions that continually morph and evolve, together creating a dynamic and changing whole, like life itself. The composition is partially inspired by the works of Pieter Bruegel the Elder and the Younger, celebrating the energy of communal connection.
This work is dedicated to all those who gather and those who light the fire so that others may be warmed. It goes out to you, those who make these connections possible. After all, we are social beings at our core.
